The small but beautiful ridge Uvan is located in the Satka district of the Chelyabinsk region, within the Zyuratkul national park and the mountain junction of the same name.

Uwan consists of two main peaks: Bolshoy Uvan (1222 m) and Maly Uvan (1014 m).

The toponym "uvan" of Bashkir origin, means "mound". It is possible that the Bashkir tribal association Satka, who originally lived in these parts, here, on the slopes of the mountain, really buried someone. But most likely the name was due to the similarity of the mountain with the bulk grave hill. The top of Bolshoi Uvan and really in shape is very similar to the mound.

South Ural researcher and toponymist N.I. Shuvalov explains the name even more simply: the name came from the Bashkir tribal association “Uvan”.

The trail begins to the top from the famous fountain - an artesian spring with a large flow rate, freezing in winter into a multi-meter stalagmite icicle.

Climbing to Bolshaya Uvan is relatively easy to climb even for unprepared tourists.

The top of the Big Uwan is remembered for a long time. It is an extensive mountain plateau, as if specially aligned by someone. However, on a plateau in separate groups in the form of ridges, walls, pillars, parallelepipeds, quaint quartz formations rise in a bizarre form.

Bashkir legend of the origin of Uvan and Taganay

Once upon a time it was. When exactly, no one remembers. A tribe of hunters and fishermen lived on the shores of a small mountain lake. No one ever violated the customs of these people. Years, decades, centuries passed. Children were born, growing up, getting married, growing old, dying. But one case shook the centuries-old foundations of the tribe. Rumors spread among him about mountain inhabitants.

A girl was born in this tribe. Grew, no different from other peers. She quietly matured and suddenly over the years turned into a girl of unprecedented beauty. They talked about her, she was noticed. Many hunters wanted to take Amina (that was the name of the beauty) as their wife. Even the leader of the tribe. The Great Lord of the Mountains, the mighty hero Taganay, who held the night sun on his shoulders - the Moon, and he sought the love of Amina. But the girl’s heart was drawn only to the young, beautiful and brave hunter Akbulat. He also loved her and was considered the first bridegroom.

Once the hunters went to distant mountains. Only women and children remained in the camp. Longing for Akbulat, Amina came to the shore of the lake and went down to the water. The night beauty Luna shone, resting on Taganay's invisible shoulders. The lake surface did not flutter and reflected in itself the surrounding world, as in a huge overturned mirror. Amina leaned toward the water and froze in surprise. A girl looked at her of unprecedented beauty and charms. Amin did not immediately understand that it was she. She was more beautiful than all her compatriots, more beautiful than all the women of the country of the Lord of the Mountains. And the girl’s heart rejoiced. Since then, every night she came to the lake and admired herself, less often began to recall Akbulat.

Soon, Amina forgot the young hunter and began to look forward to the return of the hero Taganay, to climb on his shoulders and illuminate the night world with her beauty and radiant brilliance.

“Am I not more beautiful than the moon? Only I am worthy to be the wife of the Great Winner of the Mountains! .. ”she inspired herself, and at the same time, Amina laughed merrily, imagining how she would push away the beardless Akbulat from herself.

But the girl’s heart, indignant at the betrayal, suddenly started beating fast, trembling painfully, slipped out of her chest and disappeared into the lake. Amina froze in a silent statue, and then turned into a stone idol.

The news of the misfortune reached the hunters. With grief, the young Akbulat left his comrades and climbed a high mountain. Longing for his beloved girl, who rejected his love, he turned gray and died of sadness. The hunters buried the youth, having built a huge stone mound on his grave. Since that time, Uvan, i.e. “Mountain with a barrow” or simply “a barrow mountain”.

The hero of Taganay was greatly overshadowed by the death of the girl. He left the tribe forever, went far into the mountains, and there he stopped forever in the form of a massive stone peak. But still he holds on his shoulders a night luminary - the Moon. After all, Taganay is understood as such - "the stand of the moon."

The hike to Wwan is beautiful even in winter. All trees are standing in a kurjak. The harsh beauty of the Urals can hardly leave anyone indifferent.

Big Wwan is surrounded on all sides by mountains and ridges. From the top of Uvan you can see many mountain ranges of the Southern Urals. Moreover, the peak of Uvan is the only point from which you can photograph the surrounding ridges 360 degrees around.
