Lukas mountain range
The height of the ridge is 1013 m. It rises in the form of a huge mound on the southern shore of Lake Zyuratkul. The top is composed of quartzites. There are numerous outlier cliffs, some of which are incredible outlines and stone placers (kurums). The slopes are covered with forest - relict larch and pine trees.
The name goes back to the ancient masculine anthroponym (name) of Noug or Nuk - “Resistant”. Therefore, on the maps this mountain is often indicated not by “Lukash”, but “Nukash”.
Previously, a road passed through the ridge, which was used by many nomadic peoples and tribes - Scythians, Sarmatians, Huns, Tatar-Mongols and others. Currently, the pass is filled up, from it there is only a trail, which among the local population is called the Thieves. The origin of this name is connected with the smugglers of the XIX century, moving Asian goods and gold along it.
The top and slopes of the ridge are accessible both in winter and in summer; climbing to the top does not require experience and special equipment, but can be difficult for unprepared tourists.
